Oratio: A Leaf In A Rainstorm

Rain pours down from the sky
the wind howls
tree branches shake violently
the deafening silence
of it all
reminds me
I am not in control
neither able
to make the rain fall
nor stop falling
make the winds blow
nor stop blowing
and the silence
the underlying sound
of it all
demands that I accept
my place
as the created
not the creator
a leaf in a rainstorm

~Robert Van Valkenburgh

How can embracing our role as part of creation enhance our trust in God’s providence and bring peace to our lives?
