Have mercy Lord
for I am a sinner
I look at my fellows
with contempt
envy and lust
I cannot run
nor hide from your sight
for even in solitude
my thoughts and feelings
betray my wretched heart
and defy your command
I have worshipped false idols
and bowed at the altar
of worldly riches and praise
for far too long
deliver me Lord
from spiritual exile
into your kingdom
