giver of sight
healer of wounds
bringer of light

Reflection:
Often, spiritual blindness escapes our notice; we fail to see past our own pride, prejudices, and selfish desires and fears. Limiting beliefs—about ourselves, the people around us, and our world—entrench us in lives devoid of lasting peace and joy. Driven by dissatisfaction with ourselves and the world around us, we strive harder to impose our misguided will, which only deepens unrest and unhappiness. As we stumble forward, unable to see beyond our wants and worries, we grope in the darkness of our own making, bumping up against the walls of our limitations and stepping on the toes of our fellows, hurting them and ourselves along the way.
Much to our dismay, we find that more effort is not the solution. Trying harder, self-improvement, or changing our external circumstances may improve things for a while, but they do not cure our spiritual blindness because self cannot cure us of self. Spiritual problems require spiritual solutions. What we need is grace. What we need is mercy. What we need is Christ. So, like blind Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46-52), let us cry out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me! Let me see again.” Let us have faith that our cries will not go unheard, that the response of the Lord is and will always be, “Your faith has made you well.”

In what ways has Christ taken away my blindness, given me new sight, and the ability to see life through His eyes rather than my own?
