The devil
demands attention
devours silence
flaunts temptation
entices with false promises
using noise and distraction
to sell his lies
drawing us out
with pride
greed
lust
envy
gluttony
wrath
sloth
anything to keep us
from hearing the gentle whisper
of the Spirit of the Lord
inviting us into peace
~Robert Van Valkenburgh
Reflection:
Where in my life am I allowing noise, distraction, or temptation to drown out the gentle whisper of the Spirit inviting me into peace?
Scripture:
“After the fire there was a tiny whispering sound. When he heard this, Elijah hid his face in his cloak and went and stood at the entrance of the cave.”
— 1 Kings 19:12–13
