My heart longs
for you alone
nothing else will suffice
there is no lasting joy
nor satisfaction
outside of your love
your grace
your ungraspable presence
your unseeable face
my soul aches for you
my spirit yearns for you
yet aside from brief moments
outside of my control
I cannot hear you
I cannot touch you
I cannot see you
but through a mirror darkly
trapped in this broken world
of pleasure and pain
these incessant fears
fruitless desires
this fleshly captivity
my heart aches
to be with you
~Robert Van Valkenburgh
Reflection:
Where in my life do I sense this deep longing for God most strongly, and what might He be inviting me to surrender or trust more fully?
Scripture:
“My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and behold the face of God?” (Psalm 42:2)
