It is easy to forget
that the time we get
with our children
as children
is but a season
in our lives
a fleeting moment in time
like a rainstorm in spring
a summer sunset
an autumn breeze
the winter’s cool sting
here and then gone
impossible to grasp
a life being born
a life passing away
right before our eyes
if we are lucky enough
if we are present enough
to pay attention
