Just like the tree
cannot make its own fruit grow
nor can we bear fruit
without the light
of the Lord
to raise us up
drawing us toward the heavens
without the soil
of the Spirit
to nourish our souls
giving us strength and wisdom
without the living water
of Christ
to quench our thirst
bringing fullness to our being
and sweetness
to the fruits we bear
of and for Him
that others may eat
and be made whole
through the bounty
He provides
~Robert Van Valkenburgh
Reflection:
In what ways am I trying to produce spiritual fruit through my own effort rather than abiding in the light, nourishment, and living water God freely provides?
Scripture:
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
— John 15:5
